The Canadian company Paragon Testing Enterprises, a division of the University of British Columbia, created the English language proficiency test known as CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program). Test takers can demonstrate their proficiency in English by taking this test. This exam assesses the English proficiency of a test take in a range of real-world settings, including speaking with friends, reading newscasts, responding and interpreting written materials. It does this in a clear, accurate, and precise manner. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)-recognized that the CELPIP exam is accepted as evidence of English language proficiency for programs involving citizenship, permanent residency, and other types of Canadian immigration.

There are two versions of the CELPIP exam:

CELPIP-General: This version of the test examines the test taker's proficiency in speaking, reading, listening, and writing English; utilized for professional designations and applications for permanent residence for which the test duration is 3 hours.

CELPIP- LS: This version of the test evaluates a test taker's language proficiency in speaking and hearing English; utilized for professional designation and citizenship applications and this test is for a duration of 1 hour and 10 minutes. The CELPIP General test fee in India is Rs.12,797/- including GST.( as on 5th Feb 2024)and exam results are available online in just 3 to 4 business days after the test date. The current test locations in India are at Chandigarh, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Chennai. IRCC has started accepting CELPIP Test scores for Student Direct Stream (SDS) applications from 10 August 2023
